The Hypocrite

My hope is that you have found a little bit of help so far, as it pertains to coping with the various jerks that will cross your path from time to time.

If you take nothing else from this series of blog posts, please take away these two things:

1) A jerk's job is to be a jerk. That is not our job to change. Jerks will be jerks.

2) Our job is to ensure the jerk's energy doesn't transfer onto us, causing us to join the jerk's team. Your job is to remain the amazing person you are and either distance yourself or continue pouring out love and positive energy until your energy takes over the jerk and brings them back to the winning team.

Now, on to today's post. Today, we are talking about the hypocrite. This is the type of jerk that loves calling everyone else out while they are either currently involved in the same practices or were very recently involved in those practices.

The hypocrite will say things like, "He ought to be ashamed of himself, going after someone else's significant other." (when they are involved with a married or otherwise, taken, person) or "The way she dresses is disgusting. She just wants attention." (when they do the same or did the same in their younger years). Or you may hear "I hate when people use their phone while driving" (but they literally just posted that to social media, while they were driving).

It is not that their statements are wrong. It is that they are judgmental of others while forgetting that they have committed the same or similar crimes.

Here is how you deal with the hypocrite:

1) Do not buy in. 

2) Make a thoughtful decision on whether or not the issue calls for a conversation or if it is better to leave it alone.

3) If you must call the person out because they continue to be hurtful to you or the people you love, be ready to speak boldly and with confidence, and let the person know what you will and will not tolerate.

Just because jerks are jerks, does not mean you have to be a victim to said jerks.
